Contests

Vicki Fuller WINNER OF THE BIGGEST LOSER CONTEST

First of all I want to thank Ultimate Family Fitness for sponsoring the Biggest Loser contest. It has truly made a major difference in my life.

Due to some foot problems I had gone two years with barely being able to walk much less exercise. I would go home from work, gather my comfort foods around me and not get up again until it was time to go to bed. With this type of behavior I managed to gain 50 pounds very easily. So after two surgeries to correct the problems with my foot I knew it was time to do something to get the weight off.

It was easier said than done though. Getting into the gym for that first workout was a major challenge. I kept saying I was going to start working out and it turned into "well, I'll start next week". Then, when it was next week I'd say "well, I'll start next week". That's the pattern that continued for quite a while. I just couldn't seem to get motivated. Then, for my birthday my boss bought me a month membership and 3 sessions with a trainer at Aspen but I continued to put it off until March of this year. I finally started coming to the gym almost every day and did work out with the trainer but I didn't change my eating habits at all so I didn't really see any weight loss for that first month.

Then I saw the notice about the Biggest Loser contest and my trainer said something to me about participating in the contest. I have always been one that likes a challenge and that seemed to motivate me along with the prize money. I bought the "bodybugg" and wore this faithfully so I could see exactly how many calories I was burning each day. I drastically changed my eating habits and counted calories for the first time in many years. It was so important to write everything down. In fact, seeing how many calories were in some foods would stop me from eating many things that I wouldn't have thought about before. I also started working out 6 to 7 days a week even if it wasn't all in the gym. For a person that has always hated exercise that was a big adjustment but now I feel guilty when I DON'T work out.

My trainer, Dustin Merrill has been a BIG influence in this process. I have also had four knee surgeries along with the two foot surgeries so he has had to make many adjustments and be creative in the type of workouts that I can do without causing more injury to these joints. He motivates and encourages me in every workout so I strive to please him and make him proud which in turn makes me work harder. I appreciate him and his devotion with this process and could not have done this without him
I don't want to stop with this goal. In order to improve my overall health I need to continue on with this process. I am beginning to learn that this has got to be a lifestyle and not just a three month contest. If I can do this, anyone can so I would like to encourage you to just START. The right mindset is all it takes! Good luck on YOUR journey.
